Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Whiskermon ("the Bot", "we", "us") is a Discord bot. To function — spawning cats, tracking your collection, running the economy, settling turf disputes — we need to store some data about you and your server. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and how long we hold onto it.

By using Whiskermon, you acknowledge and agree to the data practices described here. If you don't agree, please stop using the Bot. The cats will survive. Probably.

2. Information We Collect

We collect only the data necessary to run the game. That includes:

• Discord identifiers: Your Discord user ID, server (guild) ID, and channel IDs — used to link your account to your cats, fishbones, and settings
• Game state: Your cat collection, fishbones balance, catnip, tuna, stardust, yarn balls, quest progress, and any other in-game inventory or progress data
• Server configuration: Settings your server admins have configured, such as designated spawn channels, turf settings, and bot prefix preferences
• Interaction data: Commands you've executed, including the command type, time of execution, and the server and channel it was sent in — used for debugging, moderation, and anti-cheat
• User-supplied content: Custom nicknames you assign to your cats, or other text you explicitly submit through Bot commands

We do not collect your username, avatar, email address, IP address, or any information beyond what Discord exposes to bots through its API. We're not that interested in you. We're interested in the cats.

3. How We Use Your Information

The data we collect is used exclusively to operate and improve Whiskermon:

• Running the core game — spawning cats, tracking ownership, processing trades, managing the economy
• Enforcing our Terms of Service, including detecting automation, botting, and real-money trading
• Investigating abuse reports and support requests
• Improving bot stability, fixing bugs, and balancing game mechanics
• Displaying your stats on the public leaderboard at whiskermon.com — only if you have explicitly opted in via /privacy leaderboard:opt_in

We do not sell your data. We do not use it for advertising. We do not share it with third parties except as described in Section 5.

3a. Public Leaderboard

Whiskermon operates a public leaderboard on whiskermon.com. Participation is strictly opt-in and disabled by default — your information will never appear there unless you explicitly choose to join.

What is shown publicly if you opt in:

• Your Discord display name (the name shown on your Discord profile, not your username or ID)
• Your total catch count, fishbone balance, and battle record

What is never shown publicly:

• Your Discord user ID, username, email, avatar, or any other identifier
• Which servers you play in
• Any data for users who have not opted in

How to control your leaderboard visibility:

• Opt in: use /privacy leaderboard:opt_in in any server with Whiskermon
• Opt out: use /privacy leaderboard:opt_out at any time — your entry is removed immediately
• Check your current setting: use /privacy with no arguments

4. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. If you stop using the Bot, your data may remain in our systems indefinitely — the cats don't just evaporate when you leave.

If your account is permanently banned for Terms violations, your data may be retained for moderation and anti-abuse purposes even after the ban. You are not entitled to deletion of data held for these reasons.

To request deletion of your account data, contact us via the support channel in the official Whiskermon Discord server. We'll process reasonable requests where we're not legally or operationally required to retain the data.

5. Third Parties

We do not sell or rent your data to third parties. We may share limited data with:

• Hosting and infrastructure providers: The servers that run Whiskermon necessarily process your data as part of normal operations
• Law enforcement: If required by applicable law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of users or the public

Links on the Whiskermon website may lead to external sites (Discord, GitHub, etc.). We have no control over and take no responsibility for the privacy practices of those sites.

6. Children's Privacy

Whiskermon is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with data, please contact us and we will delete it.

If you are between 13 and the age of majority in your jurisdiction, a parent or guardian must have reviewed and accepted our Terms of Service on your behalf.

7. Discord's Role

Whiskermon operates within Discord's platform. Your use of Discord is governed by Discord's Privacy Policy, which is separate from this one. Discord controls the data it collects about you independently of anything Whiskermon does. We only receive what Discord's bot API provides us.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy at any time. When we do, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will change. Major updates may be announced in the official Whiskermon Discord server.

Continued use of the Bot after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. If you disagree with a change, your recourse is to stop using the Bot and request deletion of your data.
